Pretty Kitty Purse · Toddler Crossbody Bag Crochet Pattern

One of my daughter's best friends turned two recently!  As part of her birthday gift, I designed a special handmade present for this sweet little girl.  It's a crossbody bag that looks like a huggable amigurumi doll.  As you can see, this fun animal-themed purse is in the shape of a kitty cat wearing a cute dress and a matching bow on her head!

Easily Customizable

The Pretty Kitty Purse is easily customizable with different yarn colors and appliques. It is unisex as you can also turn the doll into a “boy” version by leaving out the dress skirt portion and changing yarn colors to create the look of pants and a shirt.

Minimal Sewing

It is almost a no-sew project as the legs, body, dress, head, and straps are all made without any sewing.  The only parts that are attached at the end include the arms and the bow, making it quite beginner-friendly.

Recommended Yarn

The yarn I used is Hobbii's Baby Snuggle Yarn, which is perfect for making a soft and cuddly-looking bag.  It is a super bulky (weight 6) yarn that allows you to work up your projects rather quickly, especially when paired with a large 5mm hook!  If you'd like, check out my Baby Snuggle Yarn Review for more information.

If you're looking for a substitute, this project also works with other chunky yarns, such as blanket yarn, polyester, chenille, or velvet yarn.

Make it for...

Crochet this trendy accessory as a birthday gift or Christmas holiday present.  Kids of all ages, from toddlers to children to teens, will love this sweet purse!  Even adults, such as cosplayers or those who love the kawaii aesthetic, will enjoy it too.  This bag makes a stunning craft fair and market product as well.

Size

While this bag is suited for a toddler, an older child or adult can also use it if traveling light (and not carrying a large load of belongings)!

Below are the approximate dimensions:
  • Height of purse (from ears to toe, not including straps): 10 inches (25 cm)
  • Width of purse: 7.5 inches (19 cm)
  • Length of straps: recommended length is 30 inches, but easily adjustable to any length
