Eliora the Elf · Amigurumi Crochet Doll Pattern (Free Bag Pattern!)

Hello, my crochet friends!  

Many of my recent amigurumi projects have been small, quick-to-work-up projects, like the tiny Bedtime Babies.  It's been a while since I've had the pleasure of designing a more complex doll, and I'm happy with how she turned out! 

Meet Eliora the Elf!

Eliora's design features:

  • Pointy elf ears
  • Removable hooded capelet
  • Long-sleeve dress with a mock fair isle design
  • Knee-high cuffed boots with criss-cross laces
  • Circular crossbody bag
  • Unique style combination of medieval, renaissance, woodland, fairytale, and a touch of boho themes

Since Eliora is a doll, I designed her to be played with, so I gave her some removable accessories!  Both her cape and purse can be taken off and put back on, which adds a fun dress-up feature for little ones to enjoy this play toy.


This sweet doll makes a great gift for birthdays, holidays, or as craft fair products. 


This sweet amigurumi doll is easily customizable with different yarn colors.  I'd like to crochet her again using another color scheme and hair style!

Meanwhile, I am quite happy with the one-sided braid that I added to Eliora's hair!  If you'd like to learn how to attach hair to your doll in the same way, I've shared my method in my Adding Hair to Amigurumi Dolls video tutorial. 


I'm happy with how her pointy elf ears turned out, too. I wanted to make them noticeable, but not overtly so. 

Since I'm also a fan of fair isle designs, I did a simplified, crocheted version of it with some colorwork play on Eliora's top.  It was so much fun to do!  My heart-shaped color changes video tutorial will show you how I did the colorwork between the dark purple stripes.


Eliora's outfit design also features some clean lines, as you can see the edging at the waist between the top and skirt.  There's additional edging for the socks, as well as for the boot cuffs, which I had fun adding in!  It's details like these that make me love designing dolls!

Oh, and here's a closer look at her boots.  I have a thing for high boots with cross-strapped laces.  It's also apparent in my Willow the Woodland Doll and Wanderlust Bunny patterns!

Free Crossbody Bag Crochet Pattern

Requires familiarity with stitches used (below), attaching yarn, changing yarn colors, attaching safety eyes, and sewing parts together.


Stitches/Terms Used:

  • FO: fasten off 
  • MR: magic ring 
  • Ch: chain 
  • Sl st: slip stitch 
  • Sc: single crochet 
  • Hdc: half double crochet
  • Dc: double crochet 
  • Inc: increase 
  • Dec: decrease
  • Dc-inc: double crochet increase (insert 2 dc in same st)
  • Fdc: foundation double crochet
  • BLO: back loops only
  • FLO: front loops only
  • Surface slip stitch


Materials:

  • Medium weight yarn in desired colors 
  • 9mm plastic safety eyes 
  • 2.75mm crochet hook (for all parts except the hooded cape) 
  • 5mm crochet hook (for hooded cape only)
  • Stuffing 
  • Yarn needle 
  • Scissors 
  • Optional: blush powder and q-tip



BAG

Use brown yarn and the 2.75mm hook. 

SIDE A 

R1: In MR, ch 2 and dc 12. (12 sts) 
R2: Ch 2, dc-inc around. (24 sts) 
R3: Ch 2, dc 18 and leave the last 6 sts unworked. 
FO with a long tail for sewing to SIDE B later. 

SIDE B 

R1: In MR, ch 2 and dc 12. (12 sts) 
R2: Ch 2, dc-inc around. (24 sts) 
FO and weave in the ends.



FINISHING & STRAPS 

  1. Using the long yarn tail from SIDE A, sew it to the BLO of SIDE B stitch by stitch.  Thus, you will have the last 6 sts unworked for SIDE B as well. 
  2. Attach yarn to one side of the bag’s opening. Ch 42, then sl st to join to the other side of the bag. FO.
  3. Sew a button to the front of the bag.
  4. Weave in all ends.
