Make a cute Duck Tape hand sanitizer holder to attach to a backpack, purse or key ring.

I’m back with another awesome Duck Tape craft idea! As the new school year approaches, I wanted to make a sturdy but cute hand sanitizer holder that my kids could hang on their backpacks so they always have sanitizer nearby. Duck Tape is the perfect material for this craft because it’s durable, waterproof and there are so many cute patterns to choose from.

To make your own hand sanitizer holder, you will need the following supplies:

Materials Needed

  • Printed Duck Tape (I used the Rainbow, Tie Dye and Whimsical Unicorns patterns)
  • Hand Sanitizer, Any Small Bottle w/ Lid
  • Hook and Loop Dots
  • Metal Clasp (Different Options are Illustrated Below)
  • Scissors or a Rotary Cutter + Mat
  • Measuring Tape
  • Pencil

Here are a few of the different types of clasps that will work for this project:

You can find these at any craft store. They’re usually in the jewelry or sewing notion section. The Flat D-Ring is a bit more unique… I found it at Hobby Lobby.

Step 1: Measure the size of your hand sanitizer bottle. Wrap the measuring tape all the way around the bottle, not including the lid. Add 1 inch to this measurement.

Step 2: Cut two strips of Duck Tape to the length you just measured. Stick the two pieces together so that both sides show the cute pattern. Trim off any extra parts that didn’t quite line up right so that no edges are sticky.

Step 3: Measure approximately 1.5 inches down from one edge and make a small pencil mark. Trace the bottle lid so that the top of the circle hits the 1.5 inch mark. Round over the edges above the circle.

Step 4: Place the bottle lid through the hole and wrap the bottle. Mark the bottom center of the bottle lightly with a pencil.

The next step will be different depending on which type of clasp you are using. For a D-Ring or a keychain, cut two small holes in the tape on your pencil mark and slide the rings through. The Flat D-Ring I used fit over the entire width of the tape, so I just secured it into place with an extra piece of Duck Tape on the inside of the holder.

Step 5: Add hook and loop dots to the inside of the flap and the top of the front piece. Slide the bottle lid into the circular hole, wrap the holder around the bottle, then fasten it into place with the dots.

Then you can clip it onto a backpack zipper or add it to your key ring or whatever you’d like and you’ll always have your sanitizer handy. HANDY— get it?! LOL.

Like this project? Pin it so you don’t forget it.
